Visa requirements

The vast majority of European and American passports are on New Zealand’s visa waiver list, which gives you three months to stay as a visitor.

However, you will need to submit an ‘NZeTA’ - similar to an ESTA for the US or a Canadian ETA - before you fly. This costs NZ$9 (£5, US$6) on the Immigration NZ app, or NZ$12 (£6, US$8) on their website.

You will also need to pay a NZ$35 (£18, US$24) conservation levy at the same time - this contributes to the budget for conservation land, including beaches, lakes, national parks, mountains, trails, and all that good outdoor stuff!

You can check the requirements and see how to apply for the NZeTA at the Immigration New Zealand website. These can take up to 72 hours to process, so it’s best to apply when you book your travel so you’re not caught out at the last minute!

Covid-19 travel requirements

New Zealand is only now reopening its borders after over two years, and so the travel requirements related to Covid-19 are changing all the time.

We will update this page closer to the wedding to outline the current pandemic-related rules around travelling to New Zealand.

At the moment, these are the rules for travelling to NZ from 2 May 2022:

  • You must be fully vaccinated with one of 35 approved vaccines (unless you're a citizen)

  • You will need a negative pre-departure Covid-19 test either 48 or 24 hours before flying

  • OR you will need a medical certificate of recovery if you recently had Covid-19

You also currently need to meet these requirements before flying:

  • You need a passport from a visa-waiver country OR a full visitor visa

  • You need to complete a valid NZeTA before travelling

  • You need to complete a Traveller Declaration 28 days or less before flying
