Auckland City

New Zealand and Polynesia’s largest city, built on an isthmus around two harbours and on a field of 53 volcanoes! Plenty to see and do day and night in and around the city - just prepare yourself for the traffic (although it tends to be quieter in summer as everyone’s on holiday).

Airbnb

Airbnb properties are spread across Auckland, although make sure you choose a good location as travel times can vary wildly!

The Hotel Britomart

This is a brand new luxury hotel in the Britomart precinct, right near the waterfront in downtown Auckland and above the main Metro station. Surrounded by restaurants, bars and shopping, and moments away from the ferry terminal for day trips to the islands.

Travelodge Wynyard Quarter

Don’t panic - Travelodge in New Zealand and Australia is a completely separate company from the UK and US, and is the antithesis to their down-market dorms there! This is another new hotel in the Wynyard Quarter - an old port area that has been redeveloped in recent years - and has exceptionally nice rooms for the reasonable tariffs charged.

Hotel DeBrett

A beautiful Art Deco hotel located in the laneways around High Street in central Auckland. Surrounded by designer fashion, really good coffee, bars, restaurants and just up the hill from the waterfront.

The Convent Hotel

Something a little bit different, this is in an old convent in the historic area of Arch Hill, and is surprisingly affordable. It’s an easy walk to the dining and drinking hotspot of Ponsonby and an easy bus or taxi ride to the downtown area.

The Sebel Viaduct Harbour

A modern luxury hotel in the Viaduct Harbour area - another old port area, redeveloped for the America’s Cup yacht races in the late 1990s and now a buzzing marina, and a bar and restaurant precinct right on the water in the city centre.

President Hotel

If you want to be right in the thick of it but not spend all of your New Zealand dollars, this is a clean and functional hotel right in midtown Auckland with large rooms and easy access to the rest of the city!

Hotel SO

This used to be the Reserve Bank. The basement was full of brand new cash that was distributed to banks. It’s been redeveloped into the luxury, modern Hotel SO, with incredible harbour views and a very good rooftop bar.

Cordis

When someone asks which hotel is the luxury hotel of all luxury hotels in Auckland, this is the answer! It’s where dignitaries, celebrities, musicians and other important people stay when they’re in town, and it’s really very nice. Located uptown near the universities, with good access to parks and other attractions as well as the motorways.
