Auckland
Public transport
Auckland’s public transport system includes buses, trains and ferries. To use it, it’s best to get a HOP card - you can buy these from the ‘Take Home Convenience’ store at the airport's international terminal.

Taxis/cabs
Taxis are generally painted white with a ‘TAXI’ light on the roof. You can generally flag these down in the city centre, but outside central Auckland you will need to book. Taxis are generally more expensive than private hire apps.
The main local taxi operators are:
Auckland Taxi Co-operative - phone 09-300 3000
Alert Taxis - phone 09-309 2000
Corporate Cabs - phone 0800 789 789
Private hire/ride share
Private hire/ride share is just as common as taxis in Auckland, and generally cheaper.
The apps that work locally are:
Uber: Apple App Store / Google Play
Ola: Apple App Store / Google Play
Zoomy: Apple App Store / Google Play
Airport transfers
There are a number of airport transfer options. Taxis can be hailed immediately outside the terminal, and ride share apps have specific pick-up areas that are well signposted.
Sky Bus provides cheap bus transfers from the airport to the city 24 hours a day
SuperShuttle provides private and shared minibus transfers to all parts of Auckland
Tauranga
Public transport
Public transport in Tauranga is provided by ‘BayBus’, but it is not very extensive, efficient or reliable. The buses take payment through the ‘Bee Card’.

Taxis/cabs
Taxis provide service all over Tauranga, though pre-booking is essential. The main taxi operators are:

Tauranga Mount Taxis - phone 0800 829 477
Tauranga Dial-a-Cab - phone 07-543 5050

Private hire/ride share
Both Uber and Zoomy are available in Tauranga. Ola did announce it was coming to Tauranga in December 2019, but we can’t find whether they actually did or not.
